Groshan Fabiola asked:
Hannah Montana has conquered more than just the television screen as it gained popularity not only in the United States but all around the world. Disney has already gone into various business ventures in line with the hit program, including clothing apparel, stationery, dolls, video games and other products. However, lately, Disney is focusing on techy gadgets to further promote the show. These gadgets include video cameras, LCD TVs and high quality iPod compatible speakers, all of which are a product of a successful market study.
“We are seeing kids and tweens quickly follow the adult market in terms of technology. Gone are the days of boxy TVs and CD players. This year, kids will be looking for flat screen TVs and iPod compatible speaker docks with great sound, and our new line is very much on the forefront of this trend,” Chris Heatherly, VP of global electronics for Disney Consumer Products, said in a statement.
These technological products are spearheaded by the release of the Disney Flix Video Cam, an easy-to-use compact hand-held video camera which includes various features and functions. This includes a Disney Director software which includes storyboards, sound effects, music, film footage and character voices from popular Disney productions such as Hannah Montana. This enables the users to shoot and star in their own Disney movie.
For music enthusiasts, a new Disney iPod compatible speaker, which is made-for-iPod compliant and uses Apple’s 30-pin connector, was released. A number of themes are available, including a Hannah Montana design which features two variations. The standard design includes an iPod compatible/personal media player dock and digital AM/FM alarm clock radio and the other design features a guitar amp with microphone and guitar inputs.
Disney will also be releasing a new LCD TV with a 15-inch viewing screen, high-quality Sharp panels, and digital operation. Designs for the monitors include Hannah Montana, High School Musical, Disney Princess and Pirates of the Caribbean.
Prices of these products are $99.99 for the Flix Video Cam, $299.99 for the LCD TV and $69.99 for the iPod compatible speakers.

The Truth About Refurbished Electronics
July 23rd, 2009 No Comments Posted in Art And Entertainment
Mauro asked:
We all prefer to purchase new when it comes to, well, just about everything. Unfortunately, though, the luxury of buying a brand new item is something that we are simply not afforded at all times. There are a variety of reasons why, in some instances, we are resigned to purchase “used” rather than new; money and accessibility being the most obvious points. However, there can be a positive avenue to this, which is, of course, the ability to save money by purchasing a less than new product. And, the benefits of purchasing “refurbished” items are no more prevalent than they are in the field of refurbished electronics.
It is important to note, right off the bat, which refurbished - when it comes to electronic goods - does not mean used, old or previously enjoyed. As a matter of fact, the definition of what constitutes a refurbished electronic item has a variety of meanings. A refurbished electronic item can be, for example:
An overstock item that is no longer being produced by the manufacturer
An item whose packaging has been damaged during transport, even though the item itself has not been affected at all and remains in perfect working condition
A product that has only featured in a store for display purposes only
Items that have cosmetic defects (i.e. incorrect color scheme) only, with no issues with quality
When it comes to refurbished electronic goods, such as an iPod, Xbox, Playstation or camcorder, anything that isn’t “new” is considered refurbished, and must be sold as such. Because of this, the shopper can easily save hundreds of dollars when purchasing a refurbished item versus buying a new item. In many cases, the refurbished electronic item in question is in just as good of working condition as a brand new electronic item. But, because of certain circumstances, that item is no longer identified as new.
Before some of you thumb your nose at the thought of purchasing a refurbished item, consider this scenario: you are purchasing a used Xbox 360 from a friend of yours. There are stains on the console, you’re getting the item in a plastic bag, and your friend has a reputation of not being so delicate with his belongings.
Would you purchase that Xbox 360, or one that has never been used or opened, but one whose box has a tear in it because it caught on someone’s watch during handling? Or would you purchase your friend’s coffee stained version over one whose box was opened because someone simply wanted to see what was inside, and that’s all?
And another caveat for purchasing refurbished; while your friend is a stand-up person, he probably won’t offer you a manufacturer warranty on the game. Most refurbished electronics still have their warranties intact, so, as a consumer, you are protected.
More and more people, companies and retailers are capitalizing on the value of refurbished electronics. For manufacturers and retailers, it’s a great way of moving out excess stock and items. And for consumers, refurbished electronics are a fantastic way of getting a high-quality item at an exceptionally low cost.
As with any purchase, due diligence and research is paramount to locating a respectable retailer who can give you the best deal possible when it comes to refurbished electronics. It is no different than, say, purchasing a used car or a pre-owned home. You would never think buying a used car or home is a bad idea, and you would never do it blindly either. The same principle applies to purchasing refurbished electronics. A good idea, when, combined with research, can prove to be a great benefit to the consumer.
With video game consoles becoming more and more expensive, and with more competition to choose from, there needs to be an outlet for people to get what they want without having to exceed their financial considerations. Everyone wants the hottest video game system, MP3 player or video camera out there, but not everyone can afford to purchase them either. For those who can’t, there is an option, and that is to purchase a refurbished version of the product. Again, in many cases refurbished does not mean opened, used, enjoyed, repaired or rebuilt. It just means that the item can not - by law - be defined and sold as a brand new product.
It also means that savvy customers, who don’t mind paying a little less, will end up with an exceptional electronic item at an exceptionally low cost.

Las Vegas Consumer Electronic Show

Maria asked:
The Consumer Electronic Show (CES) has grown exponentially since its inception in 1967. This show garners over 2.0 million net square feet of exhibit area which competes as the largest show floor in the annals of trade show history. Not only are the coverage area and its dimensions astonishing, also are the numbers of attendees and exhibitors that go all out each year showing the latest technology advancements, video capabilities of pocket sized cameras, gaming applications on remote servers and television quality that completely surpasses the very minds of millions of enthusiasts each year. Moving forward with greater numbers and exhibitors, the Consumer Electronic Show hosted and produced by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) will be celebrating its 41st anniversary in 2008.
The first Consumer Electronic Show began in 1967 in New York City. From 1978 to 1994, CES was held twice each year: once in January in Las Vegas ( http://las-vegas.ixs.net/ ) known as Winter Consumer Electronics Show (WCES) and once in June in Chicago, Illinois known as Summer Consumer Electronics Show (SCES). In 1995, the show changed to a once a year format with Las Vegas as the location. And from 1995 onwards, Las Vegas has become the home of one of the most viewed and anticipated shows in the world. International visitors have to ensure booking of hotels months in advance to get a personal view of the latest gadgetry available for purchase.
Each year brings a different turn and product line to the consumers. In its nascent years, the show introduced revolutionary product lines like the digital cameras and a multitude of phone sets with ample features and software applications. The scenario and product and services line up has changed exponentially. An extensive array of home theater systems, improved applications, video output units, gaming applications and servers, basic networking devises that connect any where any time are now the part of the CES. The CES brings to the world the entire technology revolution in one city.
During the four days, the Venetian in Las Vegas will be inundated with students, geeks, professionals and international visitors all running around the exhibition halls and conference room areas. Along side the product and services being the main central attraction of the CES for many years, the quality of companies involved and the list of speakers have also started creating ripples in the market as well. Bill Gates, Chairman Microsoft, DELL CEO and Paul Otellini, CEO Intel Corporation and a plethora of other senior spokesmen of companies that thrive in providing consumers with applications, systems and infrastructure that allows for faster, reliable, advanced and sophisticated mechanisms of data communication have all been present to speak to massive audiences over the last few CES years.
One of the reasons why there is such a strong influx of visitors is the irresistible gadget line of products ranging from MP3 players to remote video conference tools. IPod, Palm and other items that become household names were once displayed at this copious platform. The Consumer Electronic Show is known as the ultimate Emmys Award show but instead of actors, it is the devises that do the performing. And in actuality, there is an exceptional award for technology labeled as the Technology & Engineering Emmy Awards honor achievements in Science & Technology for Television and Advanced Media Technology, which includes awards for best use by commercials as well as programmers.
The Consumer Electronic Show really has several key agendas that come into play during the four days. First of all, it invites key speakers that are working closing to bridge the gap of human interaction requirements with technology manufacturing. These speakers in term pave the way for the future. Their speeches invigorate the next platforms and spark the revolution for many new items on the display channels. Millions of viewers are lined up to learn more about the products and how the products can in turn assist them. Can these products provide better viewing capabilities? Can the pictures be rotated in a 3 –dimensional mode? Can music transgress hundreds of yards? Can I remotely turn on my MP3 from my bedroom? Thousands of questions came answered at the trade show.
Secondly, the CES provides a platform for companies to come close to their customers without any sales, counters or third party avenues involved. The product heads of products can meet with their ultimate customer and further hone and strengthen the services and technology. The success of thousands of products stem from these interactions alone.

Electronic Features With Board Games

Victor Epand asked:
A number of board games have expanded themselves to make gaming even easier for all of its players. With handy electronic gadgets that now come with the games, players no longer need to worry about many of the smaller details which can hold them back from the game. These devices are designed to allow the maximum amount of freedom and ease when it comes to game play, putting even less pressure on the mechanics of the game and more on the strategy that goes into winning the game.
One of the most popular electronic devices that is often implemented is the use of an electronic timer. Games that provide one of these allow players to not have to worry about watching the little sand timer that games used to provide. This allows the player to focus on the task at hand rather than to watch the timer, often providing crucial seconds. Pictionary and Scattergories are both games which use timers and with an electronic device, more attention can be paid to playing the game.
Another fun electronic device that comes into play often is a buzzer. Taboo is one game that implements a buzzer, used to either signal when a player has stepped out of bounds, or when the round is over. During play with Taboo, one player from a team tries to make his or her teammates guess a certain word without saying other words on a list. One player from the other team monitors this player, to ensure that he or she does not say any of the forbidden words. If one of these words accidentally slips out, the buzzer is then heavily used.
Some classic games, however, have updated themselves to include electronic features. Monopoly now features an Electronic Banking edition, which eliminates all use of paper money, controlling the entire cash flow of the game through a little computer given with the game board. Players are given debit cards on which their entire fortune is contained and the computer keeps track of each player’s total amount. Properties and hotels are bought with the card, fines are paid, and money changes hands all with one swipe. This allows for a much quicker game and generally happier players all around.
The Game of Life is another classic game which has updated itself with exciting electronic features. A take-off from the original game, Life: Twists and Turns is an innovative take on the previous incarnation. Each player is given an electronic “Lifepod” at the beginning of the game which not only tabulates the number of “Life Points” that each player accumulates, but controls both the money of the player and even rolls the “dice” for them.
This game, like Electronic Banking Monopoly, doesn’t rely on cash to get players through the game, but provides them with debit cards which help each player control the money that comes in and out of their hands. It is quite an innovative take on the game that allows players more time with the game and less with the mechanics of making it run smoothly. With the way that innovation is redesigning the game industry, it is no surprise that these classic board games are finding new life with players.

William Smith asked:
Backgammon is a game all about getting the checkers in a line that will prove you as the winner. While the board game is played with two people, electronic backgammon can be played with one player against the computer software. This is a game that will give you great-added experience because there are added levels in the electronic game. You can find an easy game or a very difficult game if you want to challenge yourself and a great way to hone your skills.
What is nice about playing the electronic game is you can play in the car, at school, on the go or while sitting in your home. You won’t find any loose pieces or pieces that will be lost when you want to play a game of backgammon. The final game is going to be you and the computer, while you are looking for a challenging game without having to have a partner to do it.
The very things, moves you can make on the board game you can still play on the electronic game. In backgammon, you will start new games any time you like, you can turn it off any time you need to, and you can roll the dice, or save a game. Some of the other things you can do in an electronic game include declining a move, take back a move, ask the computer for a hint, or you could accept a move, double a move, you can even choose the level you want to play at. You can make multiple moves at one time, or you can verify a move is playable on some electronic software backgammon games.
This is a game that has been played for years and years, with our great grand parents having lots of fun playing this game, and it still carries over to the modern world today. If you have never played backgammon you will find that the scenes on the screen will include what will look like checkers, stones, spots, colors or such to mark your pieces. The dice are also used in this game to generate random moves, or to help when one doesn’t know just which piece to move next. The dice are also a part of the electronic game making the game one that is real fun. Is this exciting or what?
If you have never played or never seen a game of backgammon, the electronic version will help you learn fast, because you can play in beginner mode, and the software will give you hints when needed. Not only will you find electronic hand held backgammon fun, but you can also find online backgammon games that will keep your mind motivated at the same great game!
